Though finding a literary agent and publishing with the so-called Big 5 is still the ideal for many writers, we are currently enjoying an independent press renaissance, with countless publishing options for emerging authors. From small- and indie publishers to hybrid and self-publication to handmade, locally printed, limited editions of your work, the world has never been more open to an author’s specific vision.

But navigating these ever-changing waters is intimidating, and taking the wrong route can lead to the devastating mishandling of the book you poured your heart and soul into.

Join us on January 20 for “The Ins & Outs of Book Publishing,” a new seminar hosted by John Sibley Williams, WriteByNight’s staff literary agent and publishing industry specialist.

Among the questions John will answer are:

    1) Should you approach literary agents, publishers, or both?

    2) What are the pros and cons to pursuing traditional, hybrid, and self-publishing?

    3) What materials do literary agents and publishers ask for?

    4) How do you recognize red flags and avoid scams?

    5) Do you need a “platform”? Will your publisher help you with marketing and promotion?

    6) What does a fair book contract look like?

    7) Will your publisher provide editorial assistance or should you hire a good editor?

For writers of both poetry and prose, “The Ins & Outs of Book Publishing” will demystify the publishing process and provide you the tools you need to confidently publish your book.

And there will be plenty of time for your unique questions throughout.
