World’s Fastest Meet Here
Last week, Austin Shakespeare visited WBN HQ for an intimate rehearsal of The World’s Fastest Hamlet. Stage manager Justin Gordon and I swept aside all the furniture (very theatrically, I might add) to make a tidy little stage upon which Hamlet, Ophelia, et. al., did their best to be or not to be in ten minutes or less.
No major injuries were reported, although each cast member did die several times.
Though in Shakespeare’s day, “to die” also served as a euphemism for “to orgasm.” Am I saying that WBN hosted a major orgy? Of course not. I would never say that, even if it were true.
Let me tell you, these actors were moving fast. Like hummingbird fast. I must’ve snapped two dozen pictures of the rehearsal, and ended up with three quality shots. The rest of them turned out like the last one, seen below, which is the perfect representation of the cast’s speed all night. Nothing but blurs.
It’s not really their fault. I was the idiot who made the coffee. Never, ever, ever make coffee for actors.

And if you find yourself with a venue-less group of wonderful people–be it a book club, writers’ group, theatre troupe (rhyme)–we here at WBN will be glad to offer up our space. Drop us a line at info@WriteByNight.net and we’ll set up a time for you to come visit WBN HQ for your next “Meet Here.”
