FireworksYup, it’s true. We’ve added two new services to our already impressive selection of coaching, consultation, and editorial offerings. And we’re pretty darn excited about it. We hope this post will get you just as excited as we are.

What follows is a full description of each new service and some FAQ you’ll find helpful in gaining familiarity with them. So without further ado, here’s the scoop on WriteByNight’s newest services for writers.

    Strategy Session FAQ

How is the strategy session different from the free consult?

The free consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know each other before agreeing to work together; once engaged in the strategy session, we’re already working together. While you’re likely to receive some advice and guidance about your writing during the free consult, it will be nowhere near the depth and scope offered by the strategy session, or any of our services for writers, for that matter.

Will you read my writing beforehand?

Because the strategy session focuses on — you guessed it — strategy as opposed to craft, a review of your writing is not included. If you’re looking for feedback on the writing itself rather than strategies for a productive writing life, consider a manuscript critique.

Why is the meeting 50 minutes instead of a full hour?

The strategy session is divided into five 10-minute blocks, including an opportunity to ask questions about the material covered. This structure allows us to make optimal use of our limited time together, and also offers a 10-minute buffer (up to 60 minutes) in case we need that extra time to fully achieve the session’s goals.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for the strategy session?

If you feel stuck in your writing life, unsure of your writing process, overwhelmed by the tasks before you, or unable to progress as quickly as you’d like (or at all), the strategy session is ideal for you.

    Introducing Accelerated Coaching

This fast-paced, high-value program is designed for writers with a specific project to complete on a deadline, whether external or self-imposed. The focus is on steady progress and accountability via the rapid production of pages and the achievement of goals small and large along the way. You’ll work one-on-one with a master coach, either WBN owner Justine Duhr or WBN co-founder David Duhr. If our standard coaching is personal training, accelerated coaching is boot camp.

    Includes:

    • Preliminary Q&A to discuss your project and determine your needs, goals, preferences, and expectations
    • Regular exchange of creative writing and professional feedback, including verbal feedback on up to 50 double-spaced pages of your writing every week
    • Customized plan for completing your project
    • Accountability via deadlines and check-ins
    • Weekly meetings (1 hour each)
    • Weekly mini-meetings (20 minutes each)
    • Optional extras such as assignments, writing exercises, and readings

    $620/month (pay-as-you-go no commitment)
    $575/month (pay-as-you-go one-year commitment) – $540 savings
    $6,499/year (pay-now one-year commitment) – $941 savings

(Please note, due to the time-intensive nature of this service, we are taking on a very limited number of accelerated coaching clients. We will accept a total of four accelerated coaching clients on a first-come-first-served basis. Two writers will work with David; two will work with me. So if you’re interested in accelerated coaching, we strongly suggest that you let us know as soon as possible.)

    Accelerated Coaching FAQ

How is accelerated coaching different from regular book coaching?

Both are forms of coaching; both are an opportunity to work one-on-one with a professional writer to achieve your literary goals, whatever they may be. The main differences are the focus of work and the pace of work. Book coaching is heavily concerned with craft; accelerated coaching takes craft concerns into account, but is more focused on accountability via the rapid production of pages. In book coaching, you meet either once a week, twice a month, or once a month, and aim to write 10 pages between sessions; in accelerated coaching, you meet twice a week and aim to write 50 pages between sessions.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for accelerated coaching?

If you have a specific book-length manuscript you either need or want to complete on a deadline, either external or self-imposed, accelerated coaching is ideal for you.

I’m interested, but worried I won’t be able to keep up with the pace. What should I do?

First things first, let’s schedule a free consult so we can discuss your writerly interests and goals, and decide together how WBN can be most helpful to you. If we conclude that accelerated coaching is in fact the best fit for you and your project, our first order of business will be to create a customized plan for completing your manuscript, and together we’ll set the pace of that plan.

If you’re still worried, we recommend that you begin with the pay-as-you-go no-commitment option. That way, you can try the service on for size before committing to a full year.

    Can I switch payment plans?

Yes! You may upgrade from the pay-as-you-go no-commitment plan to either of the one-year commitment plans at any time. Your one-year commitment will begin on the day you make the switch.

You may upgrade from the pay-as-you-go one-year commitment plan to the pay-now one-year commitment plan at any time, but the savings will not be retained.

That about covers it! If you have a question that’s not answered here, ask us in the comments section below or shoot me an email directly. We’ll be happy to help.

Speaking of help, our main FAQ is chock-full of useful info about everything WBN, so please do check it out.
