Happy Johnny Tremain Day!
Have a happy and safe July 4th, WriteByNighters. Don’t burn yourself on the grill, don’t let Uncle Chester drink and drive, and don’t shove any lit firecrackers up your pooper. (Unlit firecrackers? Have at it!)
I’ll be spending the day with WBN mascot Scout and my battered-beyond-belief copy of Johnny Tremain, which I (say I do but don’t always) read every July 4th. Here’s why.
Discussion question: Do any of you guys have a book you read once a year? Or a movie you watch once a year? Any July 4th traditions you cling to?
I used to read Patriots around this time to remind myself what a hard fought battle it was. I’ve loaned that book away and may not see it again for a while. I should get another copy. I highly recommend it. I’ve never read Johnny Tremain so I may have to get that one, too.

I read that one! I really liked it.
Came across this in the library the other day, and plan to check it out later this month: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12972400-ten-tea-parties
I also have (Johnny Tremain author) Esther Forbes’s “Paul Revere and the World He Lived in.” Supposedly it’s chock full of historical inaccuracies, but in an endearing way. But that’s been on my list for years …
Whoa, wtf? Your Johnny Tremain link is going to some weird Propecia ad/site!
But as for spending the 4th with a book, yup, I was reading one for a review I was supposed to have done yesterday, doh! It’s about a serial killer, which is always uplifting… I may have to watch Inglourious Basterds afterward to cleanse my mind. Or maybe finish Team America: World Police, which I haven’t yet managed to do after two viewings…
Yeah, thanks; C4 is working on getting rid of a nasty redirect robot.
Haven’t seen Inglorious Basterds yet. Watched some of HBO’s John Adams miniseries. Paul Giamatti, good as he is, is … and odd choice for that role.
