Who says you can’t change the system? Many WriteByNighters have called out for weekend open hours, and we’re only happy to oblige. Starting this week, we’re offering a new and improved Write Here schedule, as follows:

    Tuesdays, 11 – 3

    Wednesdays, 4 – 8

    Saturdays, 10 – 4

Write Here is free and open to the public. All you have to do is show up with your writing cap on–we’ll make the coffee and the snacks, give you our Wi-Fi code, make available a box of writing prompts, and play a little mood music. And when you leave, drop your name in the hat for a monthly drawing, with prizes like new hardcover books, WBN discounts, and gift cards to local hot spots. See our Meetup post for further details.

Also in 2011 we’ll be offering exclusive goodies for our Facebook and Twitter fans, so get down on that before it’s too late.

And as always, the WBN member library is expanding at mind-boggling rates. My favorite new arrival is Jaimy Gordon’s NBA winner Lord of Misrule. I might be a bit biased, being a horse racing nerd, but so far it’s an excellent novel. I’ll probably finish it by the end of the week, so get your name on the list as soon as possible if you want a good (and free) read.

We hope you all had a lovely New Year’s Eve. Justine and I spent the evening in rockin’ Cedar Creek. The stalwart Goldberg laid her head on the sofa at 10:00 and said “Wake me up at midnight.” At 11:55 we engaged in the following exchange:

Duhr: Wake up, Justine. It’s almost midnight.

    Goldberg: Go away, please.

Duhr: Don’t you wanna see the ball drop?

    Goldberg: Go away, please.

Duhr: But you said to wake you at twelve.

    Goldberg: [Snore]

The next morning, we had a follow-up discussion:

Goldberg: Why didn’t you wake me at midnight?

    Duhr: [Sigh]

    Maybe next year …
