Library After Hours
The Library After Hours event last night at the Cummings Library in Palm City was a smashing success, as about 200 people showed up to enjoy great food and drink. The Library Night Owls, a subgroup of the Friends of the Martin County Library System, arranged and sponsored the event, the second in a series designed to raise funds for a new bookmobile. And to the surprise of many, the new Story Express pulled into the parking lot midway through the party—after only two events, the organization had raised enough to buy a bus.
We at WriteByNight were given a quick tour by some Night Owl members. With seats still bearing the logo of a hotel chain, and a bed and toilet in the rear, the Story Express isn’t quite ready to hit the road. But a fresh paint job had the outside gleaming, and plans are already in place for gutting the inside and lining it with bookshelves.
That mission will continue with next month’s event, November 3 at the Hobe Sound branch. Justine and I will be in the midst of our second workshop session that night (hopefully with more than a few of you blog readers seated around us), but we will have an informational table set up.
We would like to thank the Library Night Owls for having us at the Cummings. WriteByNight set up shop right inside the main entrance, where we got the chance to meet many fine people, and more than a few writers. Below are a couple of photos from the evening:
