Am I right for WriteByNight?
If you put words to paper, then yes. We work with writers of all experience levels, working in a variety of genres—fiction, nonfiction, young adult, children’s literature, screenwriting, poetry, memoir. No prior experience or training is required. Isn’t that cool? You don’t even have to have pages written yet. If you just want to learn how to become a writer or how to write a great book, you are right for WriteByNight.

Is WriteByNight right for me?
If it wasn’t, we’d be out of business by now. Our roster of professional writers and editors is dedicated to providing you with the one-on-one attention you need and deserve. Every writer is different, but our responsiveness and desire to serve remain constant. With WriteByNight, you’re assured only the highest level of quality feedback and assistance, whether you’re a bestselling author or just learning how to become a writer.

How do I know which service is right for me?
A wild guess. Just kidding. Check out our services page, then request a free consultation and evaluation of your needs.

Do I need to be a member to receive services?
Absolutely not. We turn away no writer. That said, membership does make you eligible for discounts on services, plus other literary goodies.

Who should I be working with?
Technically, the question should be “With whom would I be working?” but that’s a conversation for another time. After your free consultation, you will be matched up with a writing or editing coach experienced in the specific genre you’re working in.

Will my work be protected?
Yes. All exchanges of information, writing, and ideas between WriteByNight and our clients is strictly confidential.

What if I have little/no experience as a writer?
We love beginners. After all, what is a professional but a former beginner? WriteByNight is more than happy to help train you in becoming a writer; our private writing instruction will get you started on the path to literary stardom.

What if I don’t live in or near Austin?
We’ll be happy to set you up with a moving company that will take care of all of your relocation needs. More relevant, WBN serves clients nationwide via phone and Internet.

What genres does WriteByNight work with?
Any and all.

Fiction: mainstream fiction, literary fiction, genre fiction, young adult, novels, short stories
Nonfiction: memoir, journalism, blogging
Other: poetry, screenwriting, playwriting, children’s literature
Publishing: assistance with self-publishing and traditional publishing

Do I have to sign a contract to work with WriteByNight?
Nope, you’re free to take advantage of our services on an as-needed basis. But we will ask that you sign a contract with yourself (scary, isn’t it?). Writing requires commitment and what we like to call sticktoitiveness. Be true to yourself, and WriteByNight will be true to you.

Does WriteByNight guarantee to get my work published?
Would that we could. No one can guarantee you publication, and if they tell you they can, they are flat-out lying. What we can guarantee is that we’ll provide you the tools you need to take the proper steps toward publication.

Can I bring guests to the writing center?
Please. The more the merrier. You can’t build a writing community without writers. You can learn more about the writing center here.

Is your space available for groups?
Yes. If you have a writing group or book club without a venue, we’ll be glad to give you ours. We won’t charge you a penny. Availability varies. Contact us with interest.

How does payment work?
Acceptable methods of payment include credit card, cash, or check made payable to WriteByNight. Agree to automatic payments by providing your signature on any WriteByNight invoice, at any time. Once signed, that invoice and future invoices serve as notification of WriteByNight’s intent to charge the credit card on file. Submit billing changes at least five days prior to the 1^st or 15^th of the month.

Do you offer refunds?
We do not. However, extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What if I need to cancel an appointment with WriteByNight?
Scheduling conflicts will be accommodated, provided the client gives WriteByNight 48-hour notice. WriteByNight reserves the right to charge for missed meetings at the regular service rate.
