Ready, Set, Blog
Hello, Sandy, Arlene, Bobbi, Tanya, Vicky, Marcia, Nick, Georgette, Joanna, and Robert!
This blog is yours. It is an open forum for you to voice your thoughts, ideas, questions, and anything else that may be kickin’ around in your respective noggins. You can even post your work. We can’t meet every day (a constant source of disappointment for David and I), so we figure keeping up a literary discourse via blog is the next best thing.
Since you’re all still logging in, we’ll get things started: anyone have any ideas on why Robert Stone chose to title his story “Helping”?
Ready, set, blog!
Information Seminar
A great, big thank you to everyone who attended last night’s information seminar. The event was a total success. We welcomed a fine group of writers who munched on snacks, enjoyed The Arts Council’s newly renovated galleries and, naturally, got an earful about WriteByNight’s upcoming fall workshop session.
David and I discussed our philosophy and approach, the workshop’s structure, what potential members can expect, as well as group and individual goals.
We hoped, not only to address writers’ questions and concerns, but to articulate the very special nature of a creative writing workshop. Did we succeed? You tell us at Workshop #1.
We will hold two more informational events Monday, October 26 at 6 and 7 p.m. And the fall workshop session will begin a mere 24 hours later… hold onto your hats, ladies and gents!
Palm City Fall Fest and an Unexpected Visitor
Family, friends, food, and fun: that’s what last weekend’s Palm City Fall Fest had to offer.
Oh, and an owl stopped by WriteByNight’s tent to say hello. One never knows.

Library After Hours
The Library After Hours event last night at the Cummings Library in Palm City was a smashing success, as about 200 people showed up to enjoy great food and drink. The Library Night Owls, a subgroup of the Friends of the Martin County Library System, arranged and sponsored the event, the second in a series designed to raise funds for a new bookmobile. And to the surprise of many, the new Story Express pulled into the parking lot midway through the party—after only two events, the organization had raised enough to buy a bus.
We at WriteByNight were given a quick tour by some Night Owl members. With seats still bearing the logo of a hotel chain, and a bed and toilet in the rear, the Story Express isn’t quite ready to hit the road. But a fresh paint job had the outside gleaming, and plans are already in place for gutting the inside and lining it with bookshelves.
That mission will continue with next month’s event, November 3 at the Hobe Sound branch. Justine and I will be in the midst of our second workshop session that night (hopefully with more than a few of you blog readers seated around us), but we will have an informational table set up.
We would like to thank the Library Night Owls for having us at the Cummings. WriteByNight set up shop right inside the main entrance, where we got the chance to meet many fine people, and more than a few writers. Below are a couple of photos from the evening:

I mug for the camera.
